58. Brain Gain vs. Brain Drain

This posting discusses how Capitalism and Freedom encourages and promotes the internationally well-known positive social-political-economic effect of the Brain Gain, that is associated with free-market oriented nations based on individual and economic freedom, VERSUS how Statism (socialism) and Force encourages and promotes the equally internationally well-known negative social-political-economic effect of the Brain Drain, that is associated with statist, control-oriented, tyrannical nations based on collective slavery and a state controlled economy. My discussion regarding Brain Gain comes first, followed by my discussion regarding Brain Drain.

BRAIN GAIN under CAPITALISM

Brain Gain and capital “growth” refers to the social-political-economic occurrence of the migration towards a country, nation, or territorial region that supports, recognizes, and protects individual and economic freedom, individual rights, including property rights, meaning a migration of all kinds of individuals and businesses with different physical, intellectual, and imaginative skills, talents, and abilities, including capital and financial resources TOWARDS such a country, nation, or territorial region. Brain Gain also refers to the continual growth, development, production, progress, and expansion of the freedom-oriented Division of Labor force occurring within such a country, nation, or territorial region, meaning within a system of Capitalism and Freedom.

Capitalism and Freedom encourages, promotes, and nurtures the free and rational approach to all commerce and business, including all production activities, and all science, technology, engineering, and medicine, thus attracting an immense collection of intellectual power and personal talent – from all types of scientists, engineers, doctors, technologists, workers, and businessmen from all over the world – who desire individual and economic freedom – therefore destroying the occurrence of “Brain Drain.”

The Brain Gain occurs because people seek freedom-oriented, capitalistic societies and countries that provide individual and economic freedom, the freedom to pursue their individual rights and property rights, the freedom to pursue their individual self-interest, their goals, and their dreams – with the knowledge and constitutionally established guarantee that:

(1) they will be left alone and not interfered with by the government to use their freedom to be as productive and prosperous as their abilities and skills allow them to be in their lives and in their pursuits – both physically and intellectually, both personally and commercially;
(2) their individual and economic freedom, individual rights, and property rights, and derivative freedoms are recognized, preserved, defended, and protected by a proper constitutionally-limited government; that
(3) their product, wealth, and property will be recognized, defended, and protected by a proper constitutionally-limited government; and
(4) their product, wealth, profit, and property will not be stolen, taxed, regulated, or confiscated by the government – but will be recognized and protected by a proper constitutionally-limited government.

The great benefit of a Brain Gain is that the capitalist country that is experiencing it has the advantage of attracting all kinds of individuals and businesses with different physical, intellectual, and imaginative skills, talents, and abilities, including capital and financial resources – creating an ever increasing pool of productive, talented, intelligent, innovative, and highly skilled workers and individuals. The end result being of continual, limitless economic progress, prosperity, and stability for all.

This is the result is what we have seen in the development of the United States of America – the formation and establishment of an amazing society of individual freedom and productiveness, along with an incredible, increasing Division of Labor – where the success of each individual pursuing his own rational self-interest indirectly contributes to the well-being of all other individuals of a capitalist society.

No statist country can ever match what a true, laissez-faire capitalist country can achieve in productiveness, in prosperity, and in happy citizens. This will always be true due to the fundamental principles of Capitalism versus the fundamental principles of Statism. See Item No. 1 and Item No. 2.

This is why people risk their lives to come to the United States of America, and other countries such as present day Ireland.

Comment: I must add, however, that the government of present-day U.S.A. engages in an alarming, ever increasing amount of interference, infringement, dictating, restriction, regulation, mandating, taxation, violation, and control of the individual’s life, rights, property, and freedoms – meaning the increasing growth and control of Statism in both his/her personal and business affairs and activities. I believe that if this trend does not end, or is not curtailed and stopped in some manner, it will have a most profound negative effect on our own Brain Gain and destroy the productiveness and prosperity of the United States of America. We will then experience our own Brain Drain, if it has not already begun to happen.

BRAIN DRAIN under STATISM

Brain Drain and capital “flight” refers to the social-political-economic occurrence of the migration away from a country, nation, or territorial region that is based on statist, coercive, tyrannical government force and control over the lives of its citizens and the economy, meaning a migration by all kinds of individuals and businesses with different physical, intellectual, and imaginative skills, talents, and abilities, including capital and financial resources AWAY FROM such a country, nation, or territorial region. Brain Drain also refers to the continual decline, demise, decay, stagnation, contraction, and destruction of the restricted, regulated, and controlled Division of Labor force occurring within such a country, nation, or territorial region, meaning within a system of Statism and Force.

Statism and Force destroys the free and rational approach to science, medicine, technology, and business therefore encouraging massive “Brain Drains” of scientists, doctors, technologists, and businessmen, and other intelligent, talented, and skillful people fleeing to freer nations. Statism destroys the occurrence of “Brain Gain.”

The Brain Drain occurs because people want to escape and avoid statist countries that regulate, control, and/or enslave the citizenry (the individual) and the economy – and prevents people from pursuing their individual self-interest, their goals, or their dreams. People living under Statism know that their ability to be productive and prosperous will be limited and controlled by the state (government or ruling group). The end result being of continual declining economic demise, impoverishment, and chaos for all.

No one desires, or really wants, to live under slavery and tyranny. And this is all Statism can and will ever offer to people – slavery and tyranny. And this is why people will continue to flee from statist countries (if they can) and migrate towards freer, capitalistic countries. This will always be true due to the fundamental principles of Capitalism versus the fundamental principles of Statism. See Item No. 1 and Item No. 2.

This is why people flee from such countries as England, Mexico, Iran, China, and present day Venezuela.
